Portrait of my Great Great-Grandfather, emperor Abdulmejid. The picture was taken in the Pera quarter, in Istanbul.
EMPEROR ABDULMEJID'S TUGRA
The tugra stood for the sultans’
personal monogram used instead of signatures. They were either a calligraphic
artwork or an engraving on a wooden stamp. Within Abdulmejid’s flowered
monogram the words “Sultan Abdulmejid Khan the son of Mahmud Khan shall always
be victorious” were written.
