I might as well tell you now, my name is Selim Djem. Djem is pronounced ‘Jem’. In my Turkish passport, which I acquired not long ago, my name is Selim Cem Osmanoğlu. Cem in Turkish is pronounced Jem; Osmanoğlu means son of Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Dynasty. I am the great-great grandson of Emperor Abdulmejid who ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1839 to 1861. I have spent nearly twenty years studying and teaching at the Université de Genève, in Switzerland. Recently, I have written a novel, The Dark Side of the Soul that is available on Amazon. For extensive coverage and in depth facts and details, go to http://www.selimdjem.com where you can read excerpts of my novel, and witness how a young Ottoman Prince struggles to come to terms with his place in the world, with his feelings of rejection, and with the condition of being an outcaste in the Land of his ancestors.
